Raleigh County woman killed in North Carolina accident

A Raleigh County woman has died in a truck accident in North Carolina.

North Carolina State Police say 24-year-old Courtney Fortner of Coal Mountain died Tuesday night when the truck she was in rear-ended a tractor trailer.

The accident happened on Interstate 74 near Mt. Airy, North Carolina.

The driver of the Ford F-150, 39-year-old David Thompson of Clear Fork, was flown to Wake Forest University Medical Center.

Troopers say he is in critical but stable condition.

Police say Thompson will be charged with failure to reduce speed.

The Surrey County District Attorney will determine if additional charges are filed.
