An unidentified Harrisburg man escaped serious injuries after a medical condition caused him to veer off Interstate 29 and drive for a quarter mile in the ditch.
Trooper Shannon Orth of the South Dakota Highway Patrol said the man was unconscious when his semi-truck left the road at about 4 p.m. just north of the Renner exit. The vehicle traveled through the ditch and up an overpass's embankment. It came to rest on the guardrails of the overpass on 257th Street, Orth said.
The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was conscious when authorities took him to a local hospital, Orth said.
Emergency workers from Minnehaha County, Crooks and the South Dakota Highway Patrol responded to the accident, Orth said. A crane was used to remove the semi from the guardrails.
