<\/p>\nGERVAIS, OR. \u2014 A man from Texas was struck by an 18 wheeler truck while he was walking along Highway 99E in a rural farming area south of Portland, Ore. The victim was identified as Thomas Jay Franklin, 21, of Austin, Texas authorities said.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 2, at about 5:20 p.m. between the towns of Gervais and Brooks.<\/p>\n
Oregon State Police said the truck driver was unable to avoid Franklin, who evidently stepped into the southbound lane directly in the truck’s path.<\/p>\n
The accident remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
