SPRINGFIELD, OH – A semi tanker truck collided with a special needs school van carrying adults, killing four and injuring six. The accident happened at about 12:40 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 70 eastbound just west of State Route 40 in Clark County, Ohio.<\/p>\n

The tanker truck was traveling westbound on I-70 before crossing the median into the eastbound lane, clipping a car and then crashing into the van.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

A police officer on the scene told CNN affiliate WDTN that the 4 dead in the van were all adults who were returning from a creative learning workshop.<\/p>\n

The bus was coming from a centre that provides vocational and rehabilitation services for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. It was carrying eight clients and two staff members, the centre’s program director said.<\/p>\n

The driver of the tanker, who was not seriously injured, was taken to a nearby hospital, said Lindsay Komlac, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n

The I-70 eastbound in Clark County was closed as authorities investigated the crash.<\/p>\n

Local officials have not said if weather was a significant factor in the accident.<\/p>\n
