WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A Jupiter police officer, who was part of President Obama’s motorcade security team, was killed on Sunday, September 9, after his motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck.<\/p>\n

The victim was identified as Bruce St. Laurent, a 20-year veteran of the Jupiter police force. Laurent was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.<\/p>\n

The accident occurred at about 4:40 p.m. on the southbound entrance ramp at 45th Street to Interstate 95. St. Laurent was on his motorcycle as part of the motorcade when he was struck by a white Ford F-150 pickup.<\/p>\n

The Palm Beach Post reports:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t lose a co-worker. We lost a friend,\u201d said Sgt. Scott Pascarella, Jupiter police spokesman, who trained St. Laurent, 55, when he was a new officer. \u201cHe would do anything for anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

St. Laurent was taken to St. Mary\u2019s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, said Teri Barbera, spokeswoman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

An emotional Jupiter Police Chief Frank Kitzerow declined comment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so overwhelmed right now,\u201d Kitzerow said. \u201cOur first priority is notifying (St. Laurent\u2019s) family.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

President Obama was in West Palm Beach<\/a> on Sunday afternoon for a campaign event at the Palm Beach County Convention Center. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told the media that the president was notified of the accident during the flight from Palm Beach International Airport to Washington, D.C..<\/p>\n

The incident remains under investigation at this time.<\/p>\n
