GRAND PRAIRIE, TX – On August 3, 2013 in Grand Prairie, TX a loaded semi truck veered off I-30 and crashed through a guard rail onto State Highway 161 below bursting into flames, killing the truck driver. Grand Prairie is located in Tarrant, Ellis and Dallas counties in north-central Texas about 13 miles east of Dallas.<\/p>\n

Below is a portion of a surveillance video from the North Texas Tollway Authority showing the 18-wheeler going airborne and then crashing onto the roadway below.<\/p>\n

The accident happened a few minutes after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, when the driver of a semi truck that was traveling westbound on I-30 crashed through the guard rail, went airborne and landed on the President George Bush Turnpike below, bursting into flames and narrowly missing other cars.<\/p>\n

The deceased truck driver was from Clarksville, Tennessee and was identified as 59 year-old James Anthony Long. Authorities investigating the crash are not sure exactly why the tractor trailer went off the roadway in the first place.<\/p>\n

Alert motorists below saw the big rig coming over the railing and managed to avoid the fiery inferno. There were no other injuries reported as a result of the accident.<\/p>\n

The turnpike was closed at the interchange while repair crews worked to clear the debris and make repairs.<\/p>\n

The accident is currently under investigation.<\/p>\n
