SISSONVILLE, WV – A rollover semi truck accident closed a highway for a couple hours Wednesday in Kanawha County, West Virginia. The single truck accident occurred on Interstate 77 in the town of Sissonville, just north of the Charleston, WV metro region. The area is in the southwest section of the state, about 75 miles south of Marietta, Ohio and about 122 miles northeast of Pikeville, Kentucky.

The truck accident left the tanker lying across all northbound lanes of the interstate.

At around 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, June 9, an unidentified truck driver was traveling north on Interstate 77 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. The semi trailer truck belonged to Gordon Milk Transport, which is based in Sugar Creek, Ohio. The 18 wheeler is used to transport liquid eggs for distribution but was empty at the time.

The truck driver was passing through Sissonville and had just crossed over the bridge north of the exit for Edens Fork when he felt the tanker on his rig shift. He applied the brakes and attempted to slow the 18 wheeler truck and get it back in balance. However as he was swerving to correct the problem he apparently lost control of the truck and the tanker rolled over on its side.

The truck accident left the tanker lying across all northbound lanes of the interstate, bringing traffic to a standstill. Local emergency personnel responded to the scene and the driver apparently was able to get out of the semi’s cab by his own efforts and was not injured in the rollover. No other vehicles or persons were involved in the incident.

State deputies were also at the scene of the rollover truck accident and worked to control traffic. Vehicles were being rerouted off I-77 just before the Edens Fork exit and then allowed back on farther up the interstate.

Except for the semi tanker lying on its side there was little debris left on the interstate after the truck accident. Crews were brought in to get the disabled tractor trailer back up on its wheels and towed off the interstate. The northbound lanes of the interstate were reopened shortly before noon on Wednesday.

State police conducted a reconstruction of the truck accident. At this time it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the rollover. The roadway was wet from rain and this may have contributed to the rollover.

No charges have been brought against the driver at this time and the truck accident remains under investigation.
