The tanker truck was traveling westbound on I-70 before crossing the median into the eastbound lane, clipping a car and then crashing into the van.

A police officer on the scene told CNN affiliate WDTN that the 4 dead in the van were all adults who were returning from a creative learning workshop.

The bus was coming from a centre that provides vocational and rehabilitation services for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. It was carrying eight clients and two staff members, the centre’s program director said.

The driver of the tanker, who was not seriously injured, was taken to a nearby hospital, said Lindsay Komlac, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
