HENRICO COUNTY, VA – A truck driver had to be rescued Wednesday morning after his truck overturned and dangled off a bridge in Henrico County, Virginia. The semi truck accident happened in the Richmond metropolitan region in the eastern part of the county, on Interstate 64 near the exit for Interstate 295. The area is in the east central section of the state, 73 miles northwest of Newport News, VA and 108 miles south of Washington, DC.

Firefighters used tools to cut Mr. Zeb out of the semi truck cab, and then lowered him to the ground. Once on the ground the truck driver was treated and stabilized, and then transported to nearby VCU Medical Center in Richmond

At around 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, 60 year old Aurang Zeb was driving his tractor trailer truck south on Interstate 295, carrying a load of metal bins weighing around 44,000 pounds.

The truck driver was exiting the interstate, taking the ramp to Interstate 64 when he apparently lost control of the semi tractor truck. The 18 wheeler overturned on its side and skidded a few hundred feet before finally coming to a stop. The semi rig went partially off the edge of the bridge, the truck cab and trailer dangling precariously over the bridge.

The Henrico Fire Department brought in two ladder trucks and several fire engines, and also called in the county’s Tactical Rescue Team. The members of the rescue team have trained throughout the state to prepare to handle this kind of dangerous situation.

Authorities reported that he suffered serious injuries in the single truck accident.

The firefighters and emergency personnel were able to complete their duties without suffering any injuries. The Henrico Fire Marshall Chief David Seay credits this to their extensive training and the availability of their rescue tools.
