HOUSTON, TX – A female officer with the Houston Police Department (HPD) was working speed enforcement using a radar gun when a rental box truck slammed into her stooped cruiser on Eastex Freeway.

The accident was reported at 11:36 a.m. Monday, May 9, in the southbound lanes of Highway 59 near Rankin Road, according to Houston TranStar.

According to MyFoxHouston:

Aerial views from SkyFox indicated the truck, a rental, hit the patrol car as the officer was stopped on the freeway’s shoulder

The officer was loaded onto a stretcher after the accident, but an HPD spokesman says the female officer did not appear to be seriously injured, although she was given a neck brace and placed in an ambulance.

She was later listed in good condition at the hospital.

At least one other person, the driver of a silver Jaguar sedan, was also transported to the hospital. The driver appeared to be conscious, but the extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

The incident remains under investigation.
